Macon-Bibb County firefighter Joshua Hughes rescued a small 5-month-old mixed terrier dog named Lucky from a house fire. The dog’s owner, Valerie Young, was alerted that her house on Birch Street was on fire. She rushed to the scene and ask about her dog and was told that no animal had been removed from the burning home. She let firefighters on the scene know know that she owned a dog that she left in inside the house and beseech them to rescue him. Hughes went back in the smoked filled house and retrieved the dog still in it’s kennel, from danger. “He was jumping around when I got to him.” Hughes said.

The driver of the truck, Steven Zimvler, said he was driving on I-75 south just before the Hartley Bridge Road when a car hydroplaned into a transfer truck and then back into his lane. The car struck his truck in the right rear as he tried to avoid it. Zimvler’s truck turned over in the road and came to rest in the breakdown lane under the Hartley Bridge Road bridge.
